Gel Nail Extensions: How Gel Adds Length Without Acrylic

September 1, 2026Updated September 29, 2026

Services Explained

A gel nail extension adds real length using a gel tip or sculpted gel form over your natural nail — no acrylic monomer at any point. Extensions have a reputation for meaning acrylic; ours don't. Here's what to expect from one.

What it is

A Gel Nail Extension adds real length using a gel tip or sculpted gel form over your natural nail, then finishes with the same gel-polish top coat as every other service on our menu — no acrylic monomer involved at any point. It's the right call if your natural nail is short, uneven, or prone to breaking and you want a specific length and shape to work with, rather than building around whatever's already there.

Realistic shapes and lengths

We shape to your natural nail bed rather than pushing toward the most dramatic length possible — a moderate coffin, square, or almond shape holds up far better day-to-day than an extreme length, and it's still a real, noticeable length change from a bare or damaged nail. If you have a specific shape in mind, mention it when you book; it changes how much product and shaping time your appointment needs.

Upkeep

Gel extensions need more frequent attention than a plain overlay, since your natural nail keeps growing underneath the shaped tip:

  • Expect a fill appointment every 2–3 weeks as regrowth becomes visible at the cuticle line.
  • Between visits, treat them like healthy nails, not armor — cuticle oil daily, gloves for anything abrasive.
  • When you're ready to stop, ask for a proper soak-off removal rather than picking or prying — see our gel removal guide for what that actually involves.

Extensions vs. the rest of the menu

If you're deciding between an extension and something else, our manicure comparison guide walks through the overlay/extension/no-polish tradeoffs directly. And if you're coming from acrylic extensions specifically and considering the switch, see switching from acrylic to gel for what changes.

Every extension is backed by the same 2-week guarantee as the rest of our menu.

How long our gel really lasts

Burgundy gel nails 4 weeks after the appointment, with natural nail regrowth visible at the cuticle4 weeks after
French-tip square gel nails 5 weeks after the appointment, still intact5 weeks after

These photos were not taken right after the service. These clients came back 4 and 5 weeks after their appointments. You can see how much the natural nail has grown at the cuticle, and the gel is still smooth and fully in place, with no chips and no lifting.

Our simple rule: book your next appointment no later than 4 weeks after the last one. That way your nails always look neat.

Want a break from gel? Come in and we will remove it properly. Please don't keep wearing it and wait for it to come off on its own, and don't pick it off. That is what damages the natural nail. See how we remove gel safely.
